Having hometown traditions and annual events always seems to help foster a sense of community and togetherness among residents. The town of Needham has several annual events and traditions that residents can look forward to participating in with one another throughout the year.
- Memorial Day - Memorial Day in Needham begins with several smaller "Placing of the Wreath" ceremonies in various locations around town including St. Mary's Cemetery and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It is a time to gather to remember those who served and who were lost. Later in the morning, residents gather to watch the Memorial Day Parade that begins at Nehoiden Street and Parish Rd and travels up to the Town Common for a "Placing of the Wreath" and official Memorial Day Ceremony. Then, the parade continues to Memorial Park along Highland avenue.
- Fourth of July - Fourth of July in Needham actually kicks off on July 3rd. The night begins at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Park with plenty of food and entertainment for the whole family. The fireworks will shoot off once it gets dark. The next morning, on July 4th, is the annual Charles River YMCA 4th of July 5K Road Race and Parade. This 5K Road Race is a Needham staple for the 4th of July holiday. Come out for the race, then head over to the Town Common for the raising of the nation's flag. After, stick around for the parade, craft fair, food, and live entertainment. It is a series of wonderful activities you do not want to miss!
- Arts in the Park - The annual Arts in the Park event is a series of Thursday evening outdoor concerts in the Memorial Park gazebo that are free to the public. Bring a blanket or chairs, a bite to eat, and enjoy a picnic dinner while listening to some wonderful local talent. The concerts generally start in early to mid-July and go through the middle of August.
